W-Fragen – A1 German Grammar
W-questions (open questions)
W-questions start with a question word. The verb always comes second.

Example: Wo wohnst du? – Ich wohne in Berlin. (Where do you live? – I live in Berlin.)

W-question vs. yes/no question
- W-question: question word + verb + subject → Wann kommst du?
- Yes/no question: verb + subject → Kommst du?
Common mistakes
- ❌ Wo du wohnst? → ✅ Wo wohnst du? (verb in position 2).
- ❌ Was du machst? → ✅ Was machst du?
