Separable verbs (introduction)
Many verbs have a separable prefix. In the present tense the prefix splits off and moves to the end of the sentence. The stem is conjugated as normal.
| Infinitive | Prefix | Sentence |
|---|---|---|
| aufstehen (get up) | auf | Ich stehe früh auf. |
| ankommen (arrive) | an | Der Zug kommt spät an. |
Example: "aufstehen" → Ich stehe um sieben Uhr auf. (I get up at seven o'clock.)
