Passiv im Präteritum
Passive in the simple past
For actions in the past you use the Präteritum of "werden" = "wurde" + past participle. The past passive is typical for reports, news and history (Das Haus wurde 1990 gebaut).
Only the auxiliary changes (wird → wurde); the past participle stays the same and remains at the end.

Note:
- "wurde" + past participle = past passive.
- Don't confuse it with "würde" (Konjunktiv II)!
- Time markers like 1990, last year, yesterday signal the past.
Examples:
- Das Haus wurde 1990 gebaut. (The house was built in 1990.)
- Die Briefe wurden gestern verschickt. (The letters were sent yesterday.)
- Amerika wurde 1492 entdeckt. (America was discovered in 1492.)
