weder … noch / entweder … oder
Two more important paired conjunctions form opposites to "sowohl … als auch":
- "weder … noch" = neither of the two (neither … nor). Note: it is already negative – use no extra "nicht" or "kein".
- "entweder … oder" = one of the two (either … or), an alternative.
With "entweder … oder", after "entweder" you can keep normal word order or let the verb follow directly (for emphasis).

Note:
- "weder … noch" is already negative → no "nicht"!
- "entweder … oder" offers a choice between two options.
- With two subjects and "weder … noch", singular or plural is possible.
Examples:
- Er trinkt weder Kaffee noch Tee. (He drinks neither coffee nor tea.)
- Entweder wir nehmen den Bus oder wir gehen zu Fuß. (Either we take the bus or we walk.)
- Ich habe weder Zeit noch Lust. (I have neither time nor desire.)
