Introducing yourself: origin and place of residence

To say where you come from, use kommen aus + country. To say where you live, use wohnen in + city.

Question	Answer
Woher kommst du? (Where are you from?)	Ich komme aus Deutschland.
Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?)	Ich wohne in Berlin.

Example: Ich komme aus der Türkei und wohne in München. (I come from Turkey and live in Munich.)

Countries with an article

Most countries take no article (aus Deutschland, aus Spanien). But some do: aus der Türkei, aus der Schweiz, aus den USA.

Introducing yourself fully

Hallo! Ich heiße Ali. Ich komme aus der Türkei und wohne in Berlin. Ich bin 25 Jahre alt. (Hi! My name is Ali. I'm from Turkey and live in Berlin. I'm 25 years old.)

Common mistakes

❌ Ich komme von Deutschland → ✅ Ich komme aus Deutschland.
❌ Ich wohne in die Türkei → ✅ Ich wohne in der Türkei.
❌ Ich komme aus Türkei → ✅ Ich komme aus der Türkei.
