Example: Ich habe zwei Katzen und drei Hunde. (I have two cats and three dogs.)
Important
- 0 is null.
- On the phone Germans say "zwo" instead of "zwei" so it isn't confused with "drei".
- Asking about quantity: Wie viele …? (How many …?) → Wie viele Hunde hast du?
Common mistakes
- When counting, say eins; use ein/eine only before a noun (eine Katze = one cat).
- Don't mix up zwei (2) and drei (3).
More examples: Ich habe fünf Euro. · Wir sind vier Personen. (There are four of us.) · Das kostet zehn Euro. (That costs ten euros.)
