Wochentage – A1 German Grammar
The days of the week
All weekdays are masculine (der). To say "on a day" you use am (an + dem).

Example: Am Montag arbeite ich. (On Monday I work.) Am Sonntag habe ich frei. (On Sunday I'm off.)
Useful words
- das Wochenende (weekend) → am Wochenende
- heute (today), morgen (tomorrow), gestern (yesterday)
- Question: Welcher Tag ist heute? (What day is it today?) – Heute ist Montag.
Word order in the sentence
If the time expression is first, the verb comes right after: Am Montag arbeite ich. (not Am Montag ich arbeite).
Common mistakes
- ❌ in Montag → ✅ am Montag.
- ❌ am Wochenende ich arbeite → ✅ Am Wochenende arbeite ich.
