Formelle Konnektoren in Berichten – B2 German Grammar

Formal connectors in reports

In reports and official texts you use elevated connectors instead of everyday words. They sound more precise and objective.

ColloquialFormal
außerdemdes Weiteren (furthermore)
also / deshalbdementsprechend, folglich (accordingly)
dazu / darüberdiesbezüglich (in this regard)
aberjedoch, allerdings (however)
zum Schlussabschließend (in conclusion)

Note:

  • These connectors are mostly adverbs → at the start of the clause the verb comes in position 2: Des Weiteren ist …
  • They structure a report clearly (listing, consequence, reference, conclusion).
  • Don't overdo it – place them purposefully at the joints of the text.

Common mistakes

  • ❌ Des Weiteren die Kosten wurden geprüft. → ✅ Des Weiteren wurden die Kosten geprüft. (adverb → verb in position 2).
  • ❌ mixing register: "des Weiteren" in a casual text → prefer "außerdem" there.

Examples:

  • Des Weiteren wurden die Kosten geprüft. (Furthermore, the costs were reviewed.)
  • Dementsprechend sind keine weiteren Maßnahmen erforderlich. (Accordingly, no further measures are required.)
  • Diesbezüglich liegen bereits Ergebnisse vor. (In this regard, results are already available.)

Welches Wort passt in einen formellen Bericht für "furthermore"?
