Practice: separable verbs in daily life

In this lesson you review separable verbs. Remember the rule: verb in position 2, prefix at the end.

Typical questions and answers:

  • Wann stehst du auf? – Ich stehe um acht Uhr auf. (When do you get up? – I get up at eight.)
  • Was kaufst du ein? – Ich kaufe Brot und Milch ein. (What do you buy? – I buy bread and milk.)
  • Wann rufst du deine Mutter an? – Ich rufe sie am Abend an. (When do you call your mother? – I call her in the evening.)

Example: Ich stehe um acht Uhr auf und kaufe dann Brot ein.

Ich stehe um sieben Uhr auf. Dann frühstücke ich. Am Nachmittag kaufe ich ein. Abends sehe ich fern und rufe meine Freundin an.

Remember

  • Verb in position 2, prefix at the end.
  • With a modal verb: infinitive (together) at the end.
